Our goal at Integrative Ophthalmology for Pets is to formulate a treatment plan together with you as the pet parent, based on the information obtained from our exams. Although most conditions can be diagnosed with a comprehensive ocular examination, some situations may call for additional diagnostic to identify the cause of your pet’s condition(s) and to provide you with all the facts so that you can make an informed decision regarding a treatment plan for your pet.

Diagnostics recommended will may vary and will be specific to the condition of your pet’s eyes so please keep that in mind when performing research on your own at home. If additional diagnostics are recommended, Dr. Park-Dorner will discuss the purpose of performing these diagnostics, how they are performed and the various treatment options dependent on the anticipated results. Prior to performing the recommended diagnostics, our Veterinary Technician staff will provide an estimate and discuss all anticipated associated costs

The following are some of the most common diagnostic tests offered (for a variety conditions) and performed in clinic:

  • Electroretinogram (ERG)
  • Ocular Ultrasound
  • Gonioscopy
  • Doppler Systolic Blood Pressure Measurement
  • Tissue Biopsies with Histopathological Interpretation
  • Fine Needle Aspirates (FNA) with Cytology and Pathologist Review
  • Aerobic and Anaerobic Culture with Antibiotic Sensitivity Report
  • Ocular-Specific Blood Panels
  • Etc…

Other additional diagnostics such as radiographs (i.e., x-rays) and general systemic specific bloodwork with urinalysis, may be recommended dependent on your pet’s age, condition, or prior to sedation or an anesthetic procedure. These diagnostics are performed and interpreted by your primary veterinarian, often following a full physical examination.

We believe that your pet benefits best from having a full, communicative healthcare team so we always strive to work together with your primary veterinarian and any other specialists involved in your pet’s care, to care for your pet in the most efficient and responsible manner possible.
